Relaxed at 13 weeks

Hello Hello,

I relaxed my hair on Sunday 8/2/2009 (see previous blog post on how I texlax), and I must say that I am pleased with my my growth and progress with the thickness during the Castor Oil Challenge on http://www.hairlista.com/. I will post progress pics soon, sorry, I'm trying to get them together, but I do have an alone pic after I roller set and silk wrap. But I'm very close to APL, if I were to relax bone straight or flat iron, I do believe I am at APL, not full APL though because I still have layers. I am texlaxed so I still have a little of my natural curl at the roots, but it's ok, because I love rocking my curly/wavy styles especially during the summer.

Salsa!

I went Salsa dancing last night! The studio I went to have free Salsa lessons and social on Wednesday nights. It was so much fun and a great workout. I knew the basics already, but it was great to see if I was doing it correctly. The instructor also taught us some Merengue and Bachata. Out of the three, Salsa is the most complicated, but I love it!

ACV Rinse=BEST FREIND

I tried an ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar) rinse the other day after my shampoo, the Sunshyne way, and I've realized what I've been missing! It does make your hair hold moisture better, it makes it smooth, and makes it have a natural shine.
I used:
1/4 cup of ACV and 2 cups of water in a applicator bottle, shaken, not stirred...LOL.

I finished my shampoo, DC, and for the final rince, after rinsing out my DC, I squirted the ACV rinse all over my hair from root to tip. I started at the top of my head going down. I squeezed the excess off through the ends and then rinsed with lukewarm water.
Here are some pros and cons, thanks Sunsyne :):

Pros:
- stimulates hair follicles
- hair takes longer to dry (indicates that your hair is healthier)
- holds moisture better
- hair is smoother since cuticles are now tighter and laying flat
- more shine

Cons:
- you may smell like vinegar if you dont use something in your hair afterwards (your leave-ins should take away the smell)
- stiff, hard hair IF you dont use the right amount of ACV and water. The ACV has to be diluted.

*You can find it at any local grocery store.

Hope you try it and like it too, let me know!

Wii!

Hey all!

Recently I had been slacking off working out on my Wii Fit, I went a consecutive 34 days not "measuring in" or doing a body test training. For any of you that have a Wii Fit you know it keeps perfect track of when you play, the amount of days, and everytime you train as well, so it shows...LOL.

Yesterday when I got back on, my body test was surprisingly the exact same as it was last time, no increase or decrease. I discoverd or "unlocked" a new game as well, boxing aerobic training. I've gotta say, I didn't think I was going to like it, but it really burned some calories and has my shoulders burning. I usually stick to the Yoga and Strength training, but I will definately be adding boxing to my workout.

It's a great cardio workout as well as strength training, but I still have my eye on the new EA sports Active game. I don't have it yet, but I'm seriously thinking about it. I'll keep you posted.
Toodles..

Boot Scoot n Boogie!

So, tonight I'm going Line Dancin'...I'll be sure to add to this post when I return. ;).

I loved it when I was a kid and continued to love it when I use to teach 5th grade, we did line dancing in the afterschool program where I taught. It was great and not to mention, burned some calories... stay tuned...

SSL (Sorry So late), but the Line dancing with the girls was a great mid-week night out! There were so many dances to learn, I only remember one! LOL anyway I can't wait for Salsa this week!

NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race

This weekend I attended for the first time, A NASCAR race!! It was the Sprint All-Star Race at the Lowes Motor Speedway in Charlotte, NC. I never thought that a NASCAR Race would be soo exciting. While sitting in the Corporate Luxury Suite, of course you can still hear the roar of the engines and to my surprise gave me such a natural high...LOL. In addition to the free food and drinks, I loved the fact that we received these sprint "mini TVs" that had the race on broadcast as well as access to the radios and in car cameras of the drivers, there were some "sailors" out there, but it was fun to hear them talking junk. I forgot my camera, but I was able to snap a few shots with my Blackberry, and find a couple photos from the Web of the winner #14 Tony Stewart, and the infamous #24 Jeff Gordon's Crash...he's perfectly fine. Other than the fact he didn't get to win the 1 Million Dollars! I will definately be attending again!

Water Water Water

I've recently about a month ago started drinking a 64 oz container of water a day. See pic, I started because I know that I need more water in my daily intake. I work out on a weekly basis and drinking more water, which is pretty much common sense, helps me not to become dehydrated. I've changed a lot of things in my daily morning skin, hair, and body regimen. I'm not getting any older, ;) so we must take care of the body we have!
~T
Other benefits of drinking water include:

-It helps remove toxins and allows the "good stuff" (vitamins, minerals, etc...) in your body to actually do what they need to do.
-It hydrates the cells in your body... so your hair is more moisturized and grows in healthier, your nails are not as brittle, your skin improves elasticity and if you have dry skin it can help with that.
-It really helps with weight loss because many of the reactions that happen in our body require water to take place. It helps with the breakdown of fat.
-Purifies the body!

Making Pancakes...Remember everyday is Mother's day, tell them you love them!

Making Pancakes

Six year old Brandon decided one Saturday morning to fix his parents pancakes. He found a big bowl and spoon, pulled a chair to the counter, opened the cupboard and pulled out the heavy flour canister, spilling it on the floor.

He scooped some of the flour into the bowl with his hands, mixed in most of a cup of milk and added some sugar, leaving a floury trail on the floor which by now had a few tracks left by his kitten.
Brandon was covered with flour and getting frustrated. He wanted this to be something very good for Mom and Dad, but it was getting very bad..

He didn't know what to do next, whether to put it all into the oven or on the stove and he didn't know how the stove worked! Suddenly he saw his kitten licking from the bowl of mix and reached to push her away, knocking the egg carton to the floor. Frantically he tried to clean up this monumental mess but slipped on the eggs, getting his pajamas white and sticky.

And just then he saw Dad standing at the door big crocodile tears welled up in Brandon 's eyes. All he'd wanted to do was something good, but he'd made a terrible mess.. He was sure a scolding was coming, maybe even a spanking. But his father just watched him.

Then, walking through the mess, he picked up his crying son, hugged him and loved him, getting his own pajamas white and sticky in the process!

That's how God deals with us... We try to do something good in life, but it turns into a mess. Our marriage gets all sticky or we insult a friend, or we can't stand our job, or our health goes sour.

Sometimes we just stand there in tears because we can't think of anything else to do. That's when God picks us up and loves us and forgives us, even though some of our mess gets all over Him.

But just because we might mess up, we can't stop trying to 'make pancakes' for God or for others. Sooner or later we'll get it right, and then they'll be glad we tried...

I was thinking and I wondered if I had any wounds needing to be healed, friendships that need rekindling or three words needing to be said, sometimes, 'I love you' can heal & bless! Remind every one of your friends that you love them. Even if you think they don't love back, you would be amazed at what those three little words, a smile, and a reminder like this can do.

Just in case I haven't told you lately... I LOVE YA!!!

Suppose one morning you were called to God; do all your friends know you love them?

Cinco De Mayo!

A little history taken from www.History.com

Most of us enjoy the day to celebrate and drink Margaritas, but like all other holidays, which may not be observed by everyone, there is history behind it. Take a look:) T.

Cinco de Mayo

During the French-Mexican War, a poorly supplied and outnumbered Mexican army under General Ignacio Zaragoza defeats a French army attempting to capture Puebla de Los Angeles, a small town in east-central Mexico. Victory at the Battle of Puebla represented a great moral victory for the Mexican government, symbolizing the country's ability to defend its sovereignty against threat by a powerful foreign nation.

In 1861, the liberal Mexican Benito Juarez became president of a country in financial ruin, and he was forced to default on his debts to European governments. In response, France, Britain, and Spain sent naval forces to Veracruz to demand reimbursement. Britain and Spain negotiated with Mexico and withdrew, but France, ruled by Napoleon III, decided to use the opportunity to carve a dependent empire out of Mexican territory. Late in 1861, a well-armed French fleet stormed Veracruz, landing a large French force and driving President Juarez and his government into retreat.

Certain that French victory would come swiftly in Mexico, 6,000 French troops under General Charles Latrille de Lorencez set out to attack Puebla de Los Angeles. From his new headquarters in the north, Juarez rounded up a rag-tag force of loyal men and sent them to Puebla. Led by Texas-born General Zaragoza, the 2,000 Mexicans fortified the town and prepared for the French assault. On the fifth of May, 1862, Lorencez drew his army, well-

provisioned and supported by heavy artillery, before the city of Puebla and began their assault from the north. The battle lasted from daybreak to early evening, and when the French finally retreated they had lost nearly 500 soldiers to the fewer than 100 Mexicans killed.

Although not a major strategic victory in the overall war against the French, Zaragoza's victory at Puebla tightened Mexican resistance, and six years later France withdrew. The same year, Austrian Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian, who had been installed as emperor of Mexico by Napoleon in 1864, was captured and executed by Juarez' forces. Puebla de Los Angeles, the site of Zaragoza's historic victory, was renamed Puebla de Zaragoza in honor of the general. Today, Mexicans celebrate the anniversary of the Battle of Puebla as Cinco de Mayo, a national holiday in Mexico.

Self-Texlaxed after 12 weeks! Length check....any growth?!!

:) I did it myself this weekend!
I was kind of nervous about it but after researching and questioning different steps for the past month or so, I finally texlaxed my hair. I basically decided to go texlaxed to be on the safe side when processing my own hair, as well as have more versitility in my hair not being bone straight. I have a very deep natural wave pattern and texlaxing loosened that up for me a litte to make it more manageable. I also like rocking my wavy/curly knot outs and twist n curls.

My steps were as follows:

used: Silk Elements Olive Oil Regular Relaxer
NO scratching this past week (lol that sounds funny)!
Castor oil on my scalp the night before
based my scalp the day of with regular base cream and coconut oil on the previously relaxed ends
I sectioned in 8 sections with the nape of my kneck, front, and sides as last to process
I used EVOO and mixed with the relaxer
my application time was right at 12 min and smoothing made a total of about 15 min. (A little longer than I expected but I took my time on the back, any suggestions on more accuracy in the back would be great!)
I rinsed, and did Aphogee 2 min reonstructor, neutralized 4 times, 10 min the first time, 5 min the last 3 times
used Stabilizer Plus to balance my PH for 1 min rinsed, and then did my regular DC.
I did a roller set as well and silk wrap to end it.

Looks like I have a little growth...if not, my hair feels great and I'm keeping my journal and HJ going strong! Be back for another texlax in 12 weeks and length check, who knows I may go longer.

Halle Berry

This is funny, but it's even more funny that she pretended like she didn't know the dance and then started doing it!! LOL Check it out.

Quote of the Day...

Dreams are Illustrations...from the book your soul is writing about you.
~ Marsha Norman

When I dream, I wonder sometimes where the thoughts are coming from to paint a picture in my mind about these things. I have thought about things or have done things in my life, and within the week I dream about it. The dream is usually weird, but I keep an open mind about it and even sometimes try to interpret what the dream means. I wish I dreamt every night, kind of like a second life. :)
Enjoy your Friday!!

My Hair Journey Began Officially 3/16/2009...

OK,
I've finally decided to start posting updates of my hair journey/Transition to Texlaxed hair (Texlax=partially relaxed hair that gives versitility in hair styles and styling and a chance to wear natural hair texture). I fell off of the Blog "posting thing" for a while, now I'm all of a sudden motivated a little more. I have a page on "Hairlista" if you are a Hailista diva, my page is http://hairlista.ning.com/profile/Trellis Here is where it all started with my hair journey goals. Below is a picture of my hair the day my journey started. A few short term goals (just to name a few) that I am working towards on my journey are:

1. Growing out my layers ( I loved them, but they've gotta go)
2. Moisturizing and sealing my ends daily (baby my ends to retain length)
3. Keeping a Hair journal (along with updating my blog)
4. Deep Conditioning weekly ( I love DC, I look forward to it every wash!)
5. Setting and updating a hair regimen with what works for my hair!

I do want to say #5 is really gonna take some time, with reading other blogs and posts and what other ladies use... I've got to really take the time to "use up" one product before I start another one and stick with what my hair likes, It will get better.

I would like to thank the ladies' blogs that I follow, as well as my Hairlista diva's!! It's going to be a long journey, but I'm going to be patient. Stay posted... I'm excited!
T :)

I'm currently shoulder length, not including the layers.

CIAA Weekend 2009!

Hello, Hello....it's been a while since I've posted, but here I go! For one, I'm soooo ready for the spring/summer it's not even funny, it will be here soon enough. Anyway, this past weekend was CIAA weekend in Charlotte, there were people galore! Not to mention parties galore, we had our fair share of them this weekend. Day and night, as well as concerts. It makes Charlotte so alive when special events are hosted here. Gotta love Carolina! Here's a short clip from the T.I./Young Jeezy concert.
